Get Started
Quick Start
Install the App, add your first host, and open a shell or a herdr Pane.
1. Get the App
Install pocketty from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. When it opens for the first time, it makes your device key in the Secure Enclave. You don’t need an account.
2. Add a Host
On a Mac, turn on Remote Login first: System Settings → General → Sharing → Remote Login.
Tap + on the host list. Then connect in the way that fits your host:
- Connect with a Code: the fastest way for your own computer. It needs the daemon and Tailscale on the host.
- Connect with Tailscale: sign in with your tailnet identity. It needs Tailscale SSH, which runs on Linux hosts and cloud VMs.
- Connect with a Setup Command: works on any SSH server.
- Connect with an Imported Key: for a key that you already have.
3. Connect
Tap the host. The first time, pocketty asks you to start your free trial: everything works for 14 days, then one payment keeps it. The dot next to the host’s name turns green when pocketty is connected. On the first connection, pocketty saves the host’s key, and it checks that key every time after.
4. Open a Shell
Tap New shell. Tap the terminal to show the keyboard. The row above the keyboard has Ctrl, Esc, Tab, arrows and more. See Keys and Text.
5. Open a herdr Pane
If herdr runs on the host, its workspaces show up on the host screen, with one row per Pane. Tap a Pane to open it full screen. See herdr Panes.
6. Turn On Notifications
pocketty asks to send notifications the first time it opens. Allow it. Then install the daemon on the host. pocketty pairs with the daemon the next time you open pocketty. To answer an agent, see Agent Notifications.
