FAQ

Short answers about herdr, Tailscale, Mosh, privacy, price and devices.

Do I Need herdr?

No. pocketty works with any SSH host. herdr adds the native Pane view, agent states and notifications.

Do I Need Tailscale?

No, but we recommend it. It gives each host an address that works from anywhere, and code setup needs it. Any address your phone can reach works for SSH.

Do I Need the Daemon?

Only for notifications, code setup and turn diffs in Changes. Shells and herdr Panes work without it.

Can a Sandbox like Vercel Sandbox or Daytona Be a Host?

No. A host must accept SSH and stay on while your agents work. Vercel Sandbox has no SSH server: its shell goes through Vercel’s API. Each session also stops at a time limit, and only its files are kept. Daytona accepts SSH, but its sign-in token goes in the user name, its sandboxes have no systemd, and a stopped sandbox does not start when you connect. These sandboxes are made for short agent jobs. For a machine that stays on, see Cloud VM Providers.

Can You Read My Notifications?

No. Your host seals each one with your phone’s key before it leaves. Our relay passes the sealed bytes to Apple and keeps nothing. See Sealed Notifications.

Does My Terminal Go through Your Servers?

No. The App connects to your hosts over SSH, directly.

Why No Mosh?

SSH is on every computer already, and one protocol means the App and your computer never need matching versions. Over Tailscale, the address never changes, and pocketty reconnects in moments. The cost is no local echo: each keystroke shows after one round trip.

Can I Approve an Agent from the Lock Screen?

No. A notification opens the Pane, and you answer in the terminal. Each agent asks in its own way, and the right key differs, so pocketty doesn’t guess. See Answer an agent.

Which Agents Work?

Every agent that herdr tracks: Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Grok, Qwen Code, Kimi Code, Devin, Hermes, Antigravity and more. pocketty shows a logo for these, and a terminal icon for the rest.

Does It Work on iPad?

Yes, with hardware keyboards too.

Is There an Android Version?

Not yet.

Is pocketty on the App Store in France?

Not yet. pocketty has its own encryption for SSH and for sealed notifications, and France asks for a declaration before an app like this goes on sale there. We have started it, and pocketty comes to France when it is approved.

How Much Does It Cost?

Everything is free for 14 days, from your first connection. Then $129, once, with every update. No subscription and no account, and nothing is charged when the trial ends.

I Have a New Phone. What Now?

Your key can’t move with you, by design. Add your hosts again, then remove the old phone. See Move to a New Phone.

Type to search keys, notifications, the CLI, and more.
