States

Connection states, agent states, and the rules for when you get a notification.

Connection

The dot next to a host shows its connection.

DotStateMeaning
grayNot connectedpocketty has not connected yet.
yellowConnectingOpening the SSH connection.
yellowWaiting for approvalTailscale SSH wants you to approve the login.
greenConnectedReady.
yellowReconnectingThe connection dropped. pocketty retries by itself.
redFailedpocketty needs you: the sign-in failed, or the host key changed.

How Reconnecting Works

  • While the App is open, pocketty checks the connection every 5 seconds. Two missed answers mark it as lost.
  • It retries at once, then after 0.5, 1, 2 and 5 seconds, then every 5 seconds.
  • It does not retry while the App is in the background. It reconnects when you come back.
  • A changed host key or a refused sign-in does not retry. Fix the cause, then tap Try again or Trust new key.

Agents

herdr reports each agent’s state. pocketty shows it as an icon color and a badge.

herdr reports done when no herdr client shows the Pane, and idle when one does. Only done sends a notification: idle means that you already see the Pane.

The daemon waits 2 seconds per Pane before it sends. If the agent goes back to working in that time, nothing is sent.
