Browse Files

Read the files of a Pane's repo on your phone, with syntax colors, fuzzy search, commits and branches.

The Files drawer shows the repo of the Pane you have open: its files, its changes, its commits and its branches. You read code without your desk.

Open the File Browser

  1. Open a Pane.
  2. Tap ⋯ in the top right corner, then Files.

You can also swipe left from the right edge of the screen. The drawer opens where you left it. To close it, drag it to the right, or tap the close button.

The bar at the bottom has four views: Changes, Commits, Branches and Files. Each view keeps your place when you switch. Tap the view you are on to go back to its top.

Find a File

  • Tap a folder to open it. Folders show a guide line under their files.
  • A file with changes shows a color for its status.
  • Type in Go to file to search the whole repo. The search matches loosely, like fzf: relrs finds crates/relay/src/relay.rs. Return opens the first match.

The list holds the tracked files, and the new files that .gitignore does not hide.

Read a File

A file opens with its path at the top and line numbers on the left.

  • Code shows in color, for about 220 languages. Pick the colors in Settings → Files → Color Scheme. There are 20 schemes, and One Half Dark is the default.
  • Wrap lines in the top bar wraps long lines, or lets them scroll sideways.
  • Images show as images.
  • A binary file, or a file over 4 MB or 100,000 lines, does not open. A file over 20,000 lines shows without colors.

The copy button in the top bar has Copy path, Copy full path and Copy file. Hold a file in the list for the same choices.

Branches and Worktrees

The Branches view lists each worktree of the repo with its branch, then your other local branches. The line under each view’s title names what the drawer shows; tap it to open Branches.

  • A worktree shows its files as they are now.
  • A branch shows its files at its last commit.

Commits

The Commits view lists the last 30 commits, newest first. Tap a commit to see its changes, or tap its folder button to read the files as they were at that commit. See Review Changes.

Outside a Repo

When the Pane’s folder is not in a git repo, the drawer shows that folder, one level at a time, and only the Files view. Search covers the folders you opened.

Type to search keys, notifications, the CLI, and more.
