Shells, tmux and zellij
Open login shells on any host, run more than one, and start tmux or zellij when a shell opens.
Every host can open login shells, with or without herdr. On the host screen, tap New shell.
More than One Shell
Each shell shows up as a row on the host screen: Shell, then Shell 2, Shell 3 and so on. Tap a row to go back to that shell. To close one, swipe left on its row and tap Close.
All shells to a host share one SSH connection, together with the herdr Panes.
The Terminal Type
pocketty sets TERM to xterm-256color, unless your host sets another value.
Start tmux or zellij
Each host has a Startup command. When it is set, pocketty types it into your login shell when the shell opens. With tmux or zellij, every new shell comes back to the same session. See Start tmux on Connect.
When the Connection Drops
A plain shell lives inside the SSH connection. If the connection drops, pocketty reconnects by itself and opens a new shell. The old shell and its programs are gone, unless a multiplexer kept them.
That is why a startup command with tmux or zellij is a good idea on plain hosts. herdr Panes don’t have this problem: herdr keeps them alive, and pocketty opens the same Pane again.
