Environment

Set these in the daemon’s environment. They stay when you update.

• macOS: add them under EnvironmentVariables in ~/Library/LaunchAgents/app.pocketty.daemon.plist, then run launchctl kickstart -k gui/$(id -u)/app.pocketty.daemon.
• Linux: run systemctl --user edit pocketty, add Environment= lines, then run systemctl --user restart pocketty.
• Homebrew: brew services writes its service file from the formula each time it starts, so your changes do not stay. Use the install script if you need these.

Paths

POCKETTY_STATE_DIR	$XDG_STATE_HOME/pocketty	Where the daemon keeps its state.
XDG_STATE_HOME	~/.local/state	Base folder for the state, when POCKETTY_STATE_DIR is not set.
POCKETTY_HERDR	found on PATH	Path to the herdr binary. Set it to off to turn notifications off.
POCKETTY_TAILSCALE	found on PATH	Path to the tailscale CLI. The Mac App Store app is found by itself.
POCKETTY_AUTHORIZED_KEYS	~/.ssh/authorized_keys	The file that code setup adds keys to.
POCKETTY_SSH_DIR	/etc/ssh	Where the host’s public SSH keys are, to send during code setup.

When POCKETTY_HERDR is not set, the daemon looks on PATH, then in ~/.local/bin, /opt/homebrew/bin and /usr/local/bin.

Code Setup

POCKETTY_PROMPT	on	Set to off to stop the Mac alert. Use pocketty approve instead.
POCKETTY_ENROLL_EXPIRY_MS	120000	How long a request waits, in milliseconds.

Notifications

POCKETTY_HOST	short hostname	The host name that notifications show.
POCKETTY_DEBOUNCE_MS	2000	How long the daemon waits before it sends, per Pane.
POCKETTY_SESSION_POLL_MS	5000	How often it looks for new herdr sessions.

Logs and Updates

POCKETTY_LOG	info	Log level, for example debug or pocketty_daemon=trace. Logs go to stderr.
POCKETTY_UPGRADE_POLL_MS	30000	How often the daemon checks whether its binary changed.
