herdr Panes
Browse your herdr workspaces, open a Pane full screen, and manage tabs from the phone.
When herdr runs on a host, pocketty shows its workspaces and Panes as a native list. Open a Pane, and you get that one terminal full screen, at the size of your phone.
What You Need
herdr must be on the host, and on the PATH of a login shell. To install it, see herdr.dev. pocketty lists only a herdr session that runs, so start herdr on the host first, for example with herdr. pocketty finds it once per host with $SHELL -lc 'command -v herdr', and keeps the path. If pocketty says herdr is not installed on this host, check that command on the host.
The List
Open a host. Below Shell, each herdr workspace is a section, with one row per Pane:
- The icon is the agent in that Pane, or a terminal when there is no agent.
- The title is the tab name. If a tab has more than one Pane, the row says which one, for example pane 2.
- The subtitle shows the agent and the Pane’s folder.
- The badge shows the agent’s state.
| Badge | Color | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| working | amber | The agent is busy. |
| needs you | red | The agent asks a question or wants approval. |
| done | green | The agent finished a turn. |
| (none) | gray | The agent waits for input, or herdr can’t tell. |
The list updates live while the App is open. Pull down to refresh it by hand. If a host runs more than one herdr session, each section also shows the session’s name.
Open a Pane
Tap a row. pocketty opens the Pane and takes control of it at your phone’s size. The title shows the workspace, and the subtitle shows the tab and the agent.
herdr gives one client control of a Pane at a time. While pocketty has control:
- The Pane uses your phone’s size.
- What you type goes to the Pane.
- Your desk still shows the Pane, and you can still type there.
When you lock the phone or leave the App, pocketty releases the Pane, and it goes back to its desk size. When you come back, pocketty shows Released. Tap to take control. Tap the terminal to take control again.
You can also do this by hand. Tap ⋯ in the top right corner and choose Release or Take control.
Make Tabs and Workspaces
On the host screen:
- New workspace asks for a name, then makes the workspace and opens it. If the host runs more than one herdr session, it asks which session first.
- + next to a workspace’s name adds a tab to that workspace, and opens it.
- New shell opens another plain shell on the host. See Shells, tmux and zellij.
Rename and Close
- To rename a tab, open one of its Panes, tap ⋯ and choose Rename tab….
- To close a Pane, swipe left on its row and tap Close. This closes it in herdr, for every client.
Scrollback
herdr keeps the Pane’s history. Swipe up or down to scroll, or flick for momentum, and pocketty asks herdr to move the view. See Terminal.
How Keys Reach a Pane
pocketty sends your keys through herdr’s own API, so each key matches the Pane’s current mode. Text, keys and pastes go in one ordered queue. You don’t need to set anything up.
