What Is pocketty

pocketty is an SSH terminal for iPhone and iPad. It shows your herdr Panes natively and tells you when an agent needs you.

pocketty connects your iPhone or iPad to the computers where your coding agents run. You get a real terminal on the phone, a native view of herdr, and a notification when an agent is blocked or done.

What You Get

  • A terminal for any SSH host. pocketty uses the Ghostty terminal engine, so full-screen programs look the same as on your desk.
  • A native herdr view. herdr is a terminal workspace manager for coding agents. Its workspaces, tabs and Panes show up as a list, with each agent’s state: working, needs you, or done.
  • Sealed notifications. When an agent needs you, your computer seals the alert so only your phone can open it.
  • Input made for a phone. Ctrl, Esc, Tab and arrows above the keyboard, a text mode for whole messages, and file uploads.
  • Keys that stay on the phone. pocketty makes your SSH key in the Secure Enclave. It cannot be copied off the phone.
  • Your agents’ work, on the phone. See what an agent changed in each turn, browse the files, and open the dev servers it starts.

The push relayCloudflarePasses sealed notifications to Apple. It cannot read them

The App talks to your computer over SSH, directly. Only notifications go through the relay.

What You Need

  • An iPhone or iPad with iOS 17 or later.
  • A computer that accepts SSH: a Mac with Remote Login on, or a Linux machine with an SSH server.

These are optional, but you get more from pocketty with them:

  • herdr on the computer, for the native Pane view and agent states. Install it from herdr.dev.
  • The pocketty daemon on the computer, for notifications and for adding your key with a code.
  • Tailscale on the phone and the computer, for a stable address from anywhere. Code setup needs it.

Words in These Docs

  • Host: a computer that pocketty connects to over SSH. The App calls it a host, too.
  • Pane: one terminal inside herdr. pocketty shows one Pane at a time.
  • Daemon: the pocketty program that runs on your host.
  • Device: one install of the App, with its own keys.
